About
Sixth branch of the U.S. armed forces, responsible for organizing, training and equipping forces to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint force.
The U.S. Space Force was established on 20 December 2019 as an independent service under the Department of the Air Force. It develops and operates satellites, ground systems and supporting infrastructure for missile warning, satellite communications, positioning, navigation and timing, space domain awareness and other missions.
Headquarters are at the Pentagon. Guardians serve in Space Operations Command, Space Systems Command, Space Training and Readiness Command and other field commands. The service works closely with U.S. Space Command for operational employment of space forces.
