About
Unified combatant command responsible for joint space warfighting operations, defending U.S. and allied space assets and delivering space effects to joint and coalition forces.
U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM) is the geographic/functional combatant command for space. It plans and executes space operations, protects space assets and integrates space capabilities into joint campaigns. The modern command was re-established on 29 August 2019 after an earlier incarnation that existed from 1985 to 2002.
Headquarters are at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado (with decisions on permanent location having included Redstone Arsenal). It works closely with the U.S. Space Force as the primary service component.
