About
Operates commercial spaceports in South Australia for suborbital and orbital launches, hypersonic testing and spacecraft re-entry recovery, including the world’s first commercial re-entry site.
Southern Launch runs the Koonibba Test Range (in partnership with the Koonibba Community Aboriginal Corporation) and the Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex on the Eyre Peninsula. It conducted Australia’s first commercial rocket launch in 2020 and has since handled multiple missions, including the first commercial spacecraft re-entry in February 2025 and subsequent Varda Space capsule recoveries.
The company provides end-to-end range services: regulatory approvals, range safety, tracking and recovery. It closed a A$25 million Series A in 2026 led by Brindabella and Company with participation from the National Reconstruction Fund Corporation. CEO is Lloyd Damp.
