PLD Space Raises €180M Series C Led by Mitsubishi Electric
78 FOMOSpanish launch startup PLD Space closed a €180 million ($209M) Series C on March 4, 2026, led by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation with participation from CDTI INNVIERTE, COFIDES, and Nazca Capital. The round brings total funding to approximately €350 million — not including €169 million committed by the Spanish government via ESA's European Launcher Challenge. Mitsubishi Electric invested €50 million and committed as a strategic launch customer, seeking priority access to Miura 5 to support its own satellite constellation plans. First Miura 5 test flight is now targeting late 2026 from the Guiana Space Centre.
Why it matters
Japanese industrial capital anchoring a Spanish rocket company's Series C — and committing as a launch customer — is the clearest signal yet that the access-to-orbit bottleneck is real and global. PLD Space is now well-capitalized to reach orbit and compete in the ESA Launcher Challenge.
