Liquid hydrogen/LOX engine powering the SLS core stage. Modified Space Shuttle Main Engine producing 512,000 lbf vacuum thrust. Four fly on each SLS launch.

About

Originally developed for the Space Shuttle program in the 1970s, RS-25 engines flew 135 Shuttle missions before being refurbished for SLS. The Artemis II core stage uses four engines including E2047, which previously flew 15 Shuttle missions. Aerojet Rocketdyne is under contract to manufacture new RS-25s for Artemis V+.
